The universe is off-balance again. I’ve by-passed too many memes and the narcissistic deities hovering over my computer have finally caught-up with me. I shall bring the yin and yang back in harmony by taking part in one of these gratuitous self-indulgent trips down music lane. My deep apologies for the numerous memes I’ve let pass me by. I sincerely wish I could keep pace, ah but life has a way of overtaking our best intentions.

If there is any blogger out there that taps my virtual shoulder to encourage me in a bit of frivolous narration, it would be Kelly at kellementology.com. She is a persistent soul that passes along some of the most interesting literary challenges. Being the peculiar sort that I am, I’m going to do half of the double meme with a twist. So here goes with what’s on my playlist, only mine is a list of songs I’m currently playing and learning on the guitar.

Amarillo by Morning – George Strait

Heart of Gold – Neil Young

Blackbird – The Beatles

Johnny B Goode – Chuck Berry

Floridays – Jimmy Buffett

A Mi Manera – Gipsy Kings

I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You – Elvis Presley

Pancho and Lefty – Willie Nelson

Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd

Threadbare Gypsy Soul – Pat Green

Momma’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow-up to be Cowboys – Willie Nelson

Adalida – George Strait

In God’s Country – U2

Redemption Song – Bob Marley

Son of a Son of a Sailor – Jimmy Buffett

Folsom Prison Blues – Johnny Cash

Bad, Bad Leroy Brown – Jim Croce

Sweet Baby James – James Taylor

City of New Orleans – Arlo Guthrie

Baby Blue – George Strait

So there you have it; the songs I’m picking at most evenings when I’m taking a break from stuff. My favorite at the moment is Blackbird by the Beatles as I’m learning the very complex lead part. Very fun to practice.

I tag Mike, Scott, Micki, Matt and Sam. No worries if you aren’t a musician, you can pick-up with the normal meme but I know that at least Scott will have a list to rattle-off. I think he’s been tagged on this one already, but perhaps he’ll join me in this different spin on it. And the band plays on…

It hits you unexpectedly. That thought you race to scribble on paper or pound-out for a post. Inspiration, the breathing-in of fresh ideas, comes at almost any moment through many pathways. Creativity is a fascinating human trait that is really hard to dissect. In fact, the moment one tries to do so, it evaporates.

It seems that the ever talented Christy has found inspiration along the way from my thought sparks. I consider it an honor to be so awarded thusly as there are surely many worthy of this award. By the way, do visit her site for the whole scoop on these delightful awards.

While inspiration often hits me in inexplicable ways, I do find some sources in the form of other bloggers that communicate ideas, stories and perspectives that fuel my thinking. There are many, but I mention five as of late that have had significant impact. I really appreciate you dear friends.

Dave with his fervent pursuit for love, honor and respect of others. I have grown to appreciate his brute honesty and vulnerability.

Jennifer with her fresh ideas and sweet demeanor. She has graced my blog a number of times as of late with her thoughtful remarks.

Matt, Lord Matt, Multi Matt, my friend and mi compadre, the prolific, the engaging, the technically minded and astute commentator on the bleeding edge.

Sam the very wise man. His kindness and sincerity is a gift. His search for truth is refreshing. His life lived in integrity is challenging and endearing.

And last but in no way least. The ever delightful, ever thoughtful and encouraging, the lover of words and voice with laughter, the indisputable source for a new science to emerge alongside all of the other ‘ologies…the creator and embodiment of Kellementology, Kelly. (OK maybe it’s a bit cruel to pass this one along to her while on vacation, but I couldn’t resist).

Maybe it’s to be different or maybe because I was tagged twice, once back on April 30th by Cherann and on June 2 for 10 Random facts and by Lord Matt for 8 Random facts, I’m listing nine random facts about myself.

Here are the rules as quoted from Lord Matt:

Players start with 8 (9 in my case) random facts about themselves.

Those who are tagged should post these rules and their 8 (9) random facts.

Players should tag 8 (9) other people and notify them that they have been tagged.

Just the (Random) Facts

I have been fluent in Spanish and Turkish. A bit rusty now.

My daily schedule has no groove. I don’t know what it’s like to be in a rut.

I crammed four years of college into nine. The best part of my education happened outside of the classroom.

I travel to pretty much any corner of the globe in my mind when I sit down and play the guitar. (That’s the inspiration for my post That Place).

I love to garden but am very frugal and very patient.

I have very little use for formality in dress. I live in Birkenstocks, jeans and t-shirts. Life is too short to be uncomfortable.

I shaved my head seven years ago and think hair is overrated.

I think coding is more art than science, that most software is overly complicated and that Occam’s Razor is a powerful yet poorly understood rule in tech and business.

I think classical myth is more true than popular perception of reality and the world is more grey than black and white, that story telling is more compelling than self-help principles. I believe in absolute truth, that God is real and that modernism does a poor job of explaining reality.
