Night Out for Dad, Austin Style
Posted on September 13, 2007

There are two things I really enjoy, good food and live music. Living in the Austin area affords me access to both in abundance. Last night, I stopped-off at Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q (Their sauce really is the boss) for some lip smacking good grub and a tasty Shiner Bock before heading on down to Hill’s Cafe. Hill’s, an old South Austin tradition, is home to the "KVET Free Texas Music Series" where many of the upcoming musical greats play before they make the big time. Last night featured the young Brandon Rhyder, a very talented performer and songwriter. It was a great show.
Austin really does live-up to its name as the "live-music capital of the world." If you ever make it down to Austin, do yourself a favor and catch some live music. Between the Austin City Limits Music Festival (3 Days, 8 Stages, 130 Bands), which is this weekend, and South by Southwest (1,580 bands in 70 venues) in the spring, and 6th Street every other night of the year, Austin lives-up to it’s reputation. As a closet guitar player myself, I cannot get enough of live music. It is food for the soul.
