Finally, I found a quick and convenient way to launch an FTP session in my browser. FireFTP add-on for Firefox now ranks as my top Plug-in. The program launches quickly within FireFox, is convenient to use because I already have Firefox open and was a snap to setup. The interace worked very similar to FileZilla with drag and drop transfer of files. Once you install the software, you’ll want to customize your toolbar under view by dragging the FireFTP icon to a toolbar. You will need to setup your accounts, which seemed pretty straight-forward. There’s really not the much too it and your done. As with all the other great plug-ins that I use with Firefox, this too is free. And if you don’t yet have the Firefox browser, what are you waiting for?

At the risk of sounding like a real loser what’s FTP?
{{blushing in a corner – please don’t laugh}}
@Random Magus, It stands for “File Transfer Protocol”. It is basically a way to allow users to upload and download files from a server. Sometimes hosting providers provide it to allow webmasters to upload their pages.
Just like a web server, there are FTP servers, and instead of using http:// you use ftp:// For an example, here is Microsoft’s FTP site:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/
Hope that helps.
Random,
No, that is a great question. Maybe I’m the loser for making the assumption that the whole world knows what FTP stands for. What, not everyone is an über geek? FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It is one of the most common transfer program for moving files to and from your machine to the server. Since you use blogspot to manage your blog, you upload via a web browser using a web upload form. If you setup your own unique domain, which for you I highly recommend, you’ll need to utilize an ftp client. But no worries, I’m always here as a resource and no I’ll not laugh at your questions. I’m very glad you asked.
Thanks Mike for you input. Funny that we were answering at the exact same moment.
That is funny. I even refreshed the page halfway through typing to see if you had replied yet. If I hadn’t done that, I would have won!
Thank you both…although I love working on my computer and eventually figure out how to get around I don’t know the terminologies but technology fascinates and awes me beyond words
Random, Even top developers in the world had to start somewhere. Learning tech is a process and you’ll always find folks who know less and more about it than you do. Glad that we could offer-up some helpful info on the topic.

I wrote and linked on my own blog, but I wanted to thank you – here on your own blog for pointing me to this add-on. The long weekend has afforded me a little time to add buttons and images that I’ve been meaning to add to my blog. This plug-in was an aggravation saver, because I could easily tab back & forth from the FTP client and the links/images I wanted to add. It was so cool. God, I’m so easily pleased
Thanks to Amber (Random Magus) too for leading me here.
Micki,
I’m delighted that that the plug-in was so helpful and you’re finding this site to provide really useful information. That really is the purpose of the blog, to help others. When I do that, it’s mission accomplished. Welcome aboard!
