"San Antonio girl, she makes me crazy. San Antonio girl, she’s the one for me…"
My young bride and I stole away for the weekend and ventured off to the enchanted land of San Antonio. We go away for our anniversary in December and once every summer. In the 14 and a half years of marriage we’ve missed one time when we had our third girl and moved into our house. We were a little busy that year. It truly was an elegant weekend staying at La Cantera, a Spanish style Westin hotel that is surrounded by endless hills of the golf course with meandering fairways through the trees. It reminds me a little of pictures of Tuscany. Sabrina’s high school reunion was Saturday night at the San Antonio Country Club, a historic old building in the heart of the city. We ended our weekend with a jaunt down to the Riverwalk and supped on some mouthwatering Fajita’s at Cafe Olé while being serenaded by mariachi’s. If you are newly married, do yourself the favor of building this tradition into your relationship. Many years we didn’t know where the money was going to come from or how we were going to work our schedule. Why wait for retirement to enjoy each other and reflect on the good things in our lives?

Now you’re talking, Phil. Whattaguy! My huzbink and I have always done a great job of “getting away” even when we could barely afford it. It’s easy to overlook the “where” of a get away if you truly enjoy the person you’re with, and we’ve had to do that a few times. It makes for great stories we’ve told a few times to laughs. It’s lovely, isn’t it? Our place seems to be Monterey. But we’ve collected a few. And I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go to San Antonio and do that Riverwalk thing that always looks beautiful. Glad you enjoyed!
Ah yes, Monterrey. When I lived in Salinas 20 years ago, my favorite day-off was to go to the Hogs Breath Inn in Carmel for lunch or wander through the shops and down to the beach. Monterrey had wonderful wine tasting. We honeymooned out there. Need to get there soon. Been way too long.
