Nine Random Facts

Posted on June 11, 2007

Maybe it’s to be different or maybe because I was tagged twice, once back on April 30th by Cherann and on June 2 for 10 Random facts and by Lord Matt for 8 Random facts, I’m listing nine random facts about myself.

Here are the rules as quoted from Lord Matt:

Just the (Random) Facts

  1. I have been fluent in Spanish and Turkish. A bit rusty now.
  2. My daily schedule has no groove. I don’t know what it’s like to be in a rut.
  3. I crammed four years of college into nine. The best part of my education happened outside of the classroom.
  4. I travel to pretty much any corner of the globe in my mind when I sit down and play the guitar. (That’s the inspiration for my post That Place).
  5. I love to garden but am very frugal and very patient.
  6. I have very little use for formality in dress. I live in Birkenstocks, jeans and t-shirts. Life is too short to be uncomfortable.
  7. I shaved my head seven years ago and think hair is overrated.
  8. I think coding is more art than science, that most software is overly complicated and that Occam’s Razor is a powerful yet poorly understood rule in tech and business.
  9. I think classical myth is more true than popular perception of reality and the world is more grey than black and white, that story telling is more compelling than self-help principles.  I believe in absolute truth, that God is real and that modernism does a poor job of explaining reality.

This is a fun blog… thanks for the tag! :-)

Just so you know, I linked you up on my goodness graciousness site!

And… after reading your 9 random facts, I am curious about your ideas of God if you ever feel like blogging about it! :-)

    Warmest wishes,

    Jen

Sav, Thanks for dropping by. Interesting facts about you indeed. You’ve got a unique mix of technical and creative mind.

Jennifer, thanks for linking from your site. It’s been great to make your acquaintance. I’ll give some thought to blogging more about my ideas of God. Such an amazing topic to grasp. The interest peaks my interest to express more about Him.

    I thought you’d forgotten.

I wish I had taken nine years to finish college. Actually I wish I had taken 5 years.

    Coding IS an art.

Cherann, No I couldn’t forget being tagged by my illustrious blogging friend. Yep, the scenic route to life has a few turns, but it makes for an interesting perspective.

Lady Banana, get some good rest. Fatigue numbs the brain. Hang in there.

  8. Lord Matt on June 12th, 2007 2:20 pm

I’m with you all the way on points 8 and 9. Math too can be more art than science (see some of my recent geeky posts).

I think we understand much more of the world around us through the stories we tell than through direct study. The later while granting much that can be number crunched by computers fails to address our relationship to the knowledge discovered.

Einstein’s “miracle year” started with the paper on Brownian Motion which was kicked off by him “day dreaming” about his cup of tea he was drinking.

Hair is overrated? That’s hilarious. And I actually agree since mine is mostly wrapped up in a band of sorts from one day to the next, and my ana-mules drop their’s all over my house.

Turkish? Sheesh, Phil. Does Pig Latin count?
Okay. Duly tagged. I gotta give it a day for my usual spin, tho.

Matt, yes the whole of existence is a mystery to seek understanding in the wonder of it all. Einstein said, “I want to know God’s thoughts; the rest are details.” Amazingly profound.

Kelly, Looking forward to random facts about you. You always delight me with your quick whit and unusual take on life.

So I see that you are the one whom I have to thank in partaking in such a wonderful meme. For once it was one that was fun and sould searching. I love your site and I so want to thank you for dropping in to visit mine. I have finally gotten the re-design completed. I am so sorry that you did visit when I was in such a mess. Your code of dress reminds me of when I lived in Maine. I now reside in Oklahoma. And, down here us rednecks just wear shorts and sandles. I do so hope you continue to visit. I am so glad that that we were brought together through such lovely person as Jen. -Jackie

Jackie, You’ve got a great heart. Being an artist you are both expressive and feel things very deeply. You are also a fellow Texan by birth, pretty cool. You’re artistry is wonderful. I would love to see more of what you have done. Great to meet you.

Camille, I take that as a real compliment. It is easy to get lost in the jargon and subject matter of any technical area. I purpose and hope to speak to a broad spectrum of readers technie and non-techie alike. How excellent that you connect with my content.
