Meme: Eight SMART Goals

Goal setting is a challenging thing to do effectively. As I look down the short road to 40 as mentioned in my post, "A Techie Looks at 40", I am setting some SMART Goals for the next 15 months. SMART Goals are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. There are eight specific goals that I expect to accomplish in this time frame. In a way I’m getting around to the "Gotta Get Goals" meme that Christy tagged me for a while back. This is a new meme of sorts. I challenge you dear reader to set eight SMART goals, two in each of the following arenas: Personal, Family, Spritual and Professional. You may put a different spin on those categories, but the idea is to set goals that have real teeth, that challenge you to rise to your potential and make an impact in your world. Each of these goals should have some statements as to the outcome or reason for the goals. The next part of the meme is to follow-up monthly with a post assessing these goals. What is the status of them. This builds accountability and promotes the success of the goals.
Personal
1. Read the Bible through
- Gain wisdom
- Grow in relationship with the Lord
- Find joy and peace
2. Exercise three times a week
- Lose weight
- Gain energy
- Increase clarity of thought
Family
1. Saltillo tile the house and patio
- Improve value of the home
- Promote contentment in a smaller home
- Create more aesthetically pleasing environment
2. Vacation every six weeks
- Spend more time with the children
- Keep right perspective
- Reduce stress of daily grind
Spiritual
1. Help CedarRidge Church triple in size
- Encourage fellow believers
- Model what’s important to children
- Invest in things eternal
2. Go on a mission Trip
- Give to those in need
- Encourage others to do the same
- Enlarge my worldview
Professional
1. Develop a CMS for work
- Learn a new language
- Develop a robust application
- Empower the company for better communication
2. Collaborate on one creative online experiment
- Provide sandbox environment for learning
- Harness new technology
- Build knowledge base for future ventures

You also seem very methodical and analytical.
Thanks for your comments cherann. Analytical I believe I am. Methodical on the other hand is something I’m really trying to grow in. I get creative ideas and can run with something that I’m passionate about for sure. Being consistent day-after-day is actually quite a challenge for me. Hence my desire to go after SMART goals. I put these out there as accountability for myself especially ones like exercising consistently.
This is quite the list of goals. The vacationing every 6 weeks sounds like a winner. If you post it, we’ll help you keep track of whether you’re on target!
Thank Kelly, yep that’s the idea. For all the great advice out there, follow-through is the hardest part of goal setting. It will be very instructive to me and I think an interesting read for folks to see how it goes.
