Bloggers Getting Younger

Posted on May 24, 2007

My 12 year-old daughter has started a book review blog. She’s using Tumblr and posts reviews of the books she reads as part of her homeschool experience. She’s an avid reader and blogging is a great outlet for her to hone her writing skills. I won’t be surprised if she is a writer or editor one day. Check out her blog at: bookblog.tumblr.com.

I wish I had been that good at that age…

Yeah, me too. When she was nine she tested as reading at a post highschool level in reading. We are now encouraging her to write more as she’s so, so literate. Maybe it jumped a generation as my Dad was pretty amazing.

Cool! I started blogging as well when I was in that age. I wish her good luck with the writing in the future!

Impressive. If she keeps it, then she’ll know what books to recommend to her kids. She also writes well for a twelve year old.

Thanks for the encouragement. I know just posting the entry was exciting to her. Everyone’s very encouraging and kind words will spur her on to write more.

How cool is this! Although I no longer teach, I’ve been working to plan this type of thing for students in the district I used to work for. I think it’s a fantastic idea. I often worked with kids who could read like the wind, but had writing skills that were seriously in need.

Good for you that you’ve found something great for your daughter. And Island of the Blue Dolphins is a lovely book!

Thanks Kelly, yes, that was what we came to recently when as we wanted to give greater focus to her reading efforts. Encouraging her to blog just seemed like a natural outlet for our budding bookworm.

Oh that is fantastic! Good for her! My daughter is also twelve and although she is talented in writing she has no interest in blogging, lol…I tried to convince her…but she won’t listen, lol.

Hope you have a great day! :)

Christy, It took a little nudging to get my daughter going. I highly recommend Tumblr for someone starting out as it’s so darn basic. Thanks for stopping by.

Fantastic! My first blog project was a book review blog, too. :)

Please tell your daughter that she’s a terrific writer, and that I said, “You go, girl!” :D

Adria, I’ll be sure to pass along the comment and your URL. I’m sure she’ll want to visit your blog. It’s most excellent to see young people blogging and about books too!

I came by with something for your daughter. Would you pass it along to her? Thank you.
