Post to Blog from MSN Messenger with Plug-in
Posted on April 25, 2007
I found a handy widget through imified.com that allows you to post directly to a WordPress blog from MSN Messenger. This was originally posted live from MSN before later being edited. They have widgets for Blogger, Live Journal and other blog applications in addition to apps like Google Calendar. Several things things to keep in mind:
- Messenger normal messages are limited so you’ll want to get a plug-in from msgpluslive which will extend the capability to 1,000 characters.
- You can only post text. HTML
tags are not accepted and hyper references will post as static text. - If you want to have your posts auto-assigned to a category, change your default posting from uncategorized. To change the default posting for posts in WordPress, go to Options and then Writing. You also have the option to setup an email address and set the category. I’m just not as crazy about hanging an email address out there but it may be worth it especially if you post via sms.
- You can choose at submission to post live or not. I have found it works better to write the messag in notepad and then post into the IM window. It gives you a chance to edit before posting.
- Once you send, the post is sent which is why it’s probably a good idea to post and send later.
If you are an avid user of IM, this may be a handy tool.
