I'm not crazy about MS Windows, but until recently I have to say that my Dell Desktop with WindowsXP was pretty rock solid. That all changed after I upgraded to IE7. All of a sudden the machine started running slower, the browser itself grinded along and the CPU utilization shot-up. Finally, this past week, I was having error notifications that were taking down the machine. Talk about a whacked machine. After uninstalling a number of programs, checking the log files and making sure there were no

This weekend I began the intensive ritual of Spring gardening. Beyond the cutting, trimming, fertilizing, watering, and weed pulling, there is the delightful process of transplanting seedlings that have spontaneously sprung-up over the course of the year. I also dug-up and transplanted some flowers that are virtually roots with seemingly dead stems. They are now relocated, to the yet disbelief of my nine-year old, and will bloom into beautiful lantanas in just a short while.
I was thinking to

Thanks to Not Fearing Change for listing Thought Sparks as one of five blogs that makes her think.
She wrote, "Thought Sparks is awesome in bringing forth technological thinking and how things are moving. His whole blog is dedicated to ensuring our minds are moving."
Very cool. If I make you think, then I am living up to my goal of "Igniting Ideas for the Common Good."
Soon to come will be five blogs that make me think. Stay tuned.

After working probably too many late nights, CedarRidgeChurch.net is live. The site was built using WordPress which made it technically easy to install. It just took a while to get the right direction and think through the future development of the site. Eventually the site will be extended-out as the church grows. It's been fun to help start this new fellowship in a growing part of town and using tech skills for God is always a joy for me. The site will continue to go through visual refinem

It is interesting to watch Yahoo and Google jockeying for position in the search engine wars. Google often comes out on top, but Yahoo makes some good gains with some of their offerings that give Google a run for their money. Comparing http://local.yahoo.com and http://local.google.com I'd say Yahoo may have one this one. The yahoo interface has a more elegant interace with more comprehensive results. Both had the obligatory ads, map, and listing of the company. Yahoo added immediate return of a

OK, that may sound like an audacious statement to make. But disabling the back button on a website is a major no no. It is Hotel California, "You can check in any time you like, but you can never leave." Cool lyrics to a song, bad concept for web design. I wouldn't rant about it, but that tactic is too alive and well on blog sites. Blogging has unfortuanetly revived some lost arts to poor web design and that would be the top of my list.

New site http://bloggst.com/ has some real potential for a thought sparking site. I nominate it as the thought spark site of the month. Lars-Christian is a young man w/ vision to promote ideas and build a site through shared ideas for blogging. Check out the site and register. You'll be glad you did and probably learn much in the process. I really enjoy getting in on the ground floor with new sites and watch them develop. This will be one for sure to watch.

OK, so I'm still doing some design on the Thoughtsparks Logo. Number two and three are another Option. Any thoughts? I appreciate your feedback. Still working through look and feel for thoughtsparks.net. Which color scheme? is the question mark with "sparks" the way to go? Do I use a different mark for the icon?

You heard it right. Designers and developers who use Adobe products will have to upgrade to new versions to run stable apps on Vista, reports InformationWeek.com. Somewhere in the wrangling between Microsoft and Adobe, a very important player was neglected...the customer. While this news will hit a significant segment, I imagine this is just the tip of the iceberg. What other legacy programs are going to choke on the new operating system? Will users buy into it or is it time to go Mac or Linux?

This weekend I installed my complimentary copy of Microsoft Office 2007 on my desktop at home. As a developer, Microsoft gave me a full version copy at the Vista Launch. I haven't really spent much time w/ the new app yet, but my daughter has. Tonight when I walked in the door she shouted, "I love Microsoft!" I don't share quite the same enthusiasm as her, but it's been fascinating to watch over her shoulder as she dove into Word and is creating documents with very unique formatting. S
